My 8 year old son gets sick to his stomach anytime we travel in the car for more than 30minutes. He is a trooper and tires his best but it BREAKS my heart. He cannot tolerate dramamine AT ALL. Does anyone out there have any wisdom to share with this Mommy??? Thanks in advance for your time and suggestions.

Contrary to what the others say, he should avoid sleeping unless he really can't cope no more. The reason being is he isn't focusing on anything with his eyes closed and the motion he experiences won't help settle his stomach as he is swerving about everywhere.
I recommend perhaps sitting him in a seat of a car where it be if in the back, the middle seat so he can focus on making a sentence with the letters in the car registration on the car in front or perhaps in the front where he can talk to the driver and possibly be asked questions about "Do you know which way is next Johnny?" The child will feel important and helps with their directions and it'll take his mind off how he is feeling.

Whatever you do, avoid buying him a puzzle book or asking him to read his favourite book. His eyes and his head need to stay up and focus on something in the distance.

Mommy and Daddy might not agree but perhaps even make him a mix tape of the songs he can sing along to that he actually enjoys e.g. radio or car time stories or car songs. Heck, it might be something the whole familly enjoys by doing it together.

My mother used to put a brown paper bag on my chest before we set out. It sometimes worked as long as I kept looking out of the front of the car. Don't look down or read.

If I close my eyes my sickness subsides. Maybe you should tell him to close his eyes in the meantime until he gets used to the ride.
