hi im gona be 18 next month but i've always wanted to play the drums. do you think 18 is too late to start and get good at it?
2 of my friends play guitar and bass n said they wanna form a band with me in it. dunno if id do that but id luv to at least play the drums and get good at it.

any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

No you're not too old and you're not too old to go to school and learn how to spell correctly.

It is a very good age to start, you may be more focused, and respect that you are a beginner sometimes people can not accept that because they want to show off or be as good as the don't got that route. I started when I was 14 and picked it back up at 20 and I am a girl. Music stores have drum pads, pick up a pair wood and brush style drum sticks, (new is recommended) Practise with your right hand with a 1, 2, 3 ,4 beat, 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4.(8ths) then pick your pace 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4 (16th) then pick your pace 1234 1234 1234(32s) repeat this over and over. I hold my stick loose straight like I pick up something. My left stick I turn my hand over and place the stick in it, and rotate it. It fun your will love it. with your left on tap on the 4's. The pedals next lesson good luck and all the drummer I have known I live by Hollywood CA where all the bands are, the drummers turn out to be good leaders and are trustworthy. From the Firedog

it would be wise for you to start as soon as possible. I play drums and i've noticed that it comes a lot easier for some people than others. my friend is in a band, and has been playing drums for 2 months, and is amazing. all i can say is to start ASAP if you want to get really good

As long as you have drive and passion... and are willing to practice, practice, practise then go for it!!!!

Almost 18 is not what I call too old? Maybe if you were about to reach 100 I might have some reservations about the strength of your wrists whilst drumming!!!

unless you are tone deaf then no it is never too late to learn and you are only eighteen you're still a baby come on kiddo you are making yourself sound down right prehistoric....my only word of advice when you are learning train yourself not to contort your face have you ever noticed drummers always make weird faces when playing so as you are learning put a full length mirror in front of you so you don't make weird faces because i am sure that most groupies like lead singers and guitarists because the drummers make weird faces...if the music is in you're heart you could be the next john bohnam

No, never, u should do what u want, u only live once. Did u here about the man that was 93yrs. old & took GED classes too have it before he died?, well he got. I think it's great too try things u want too do, good luck in everything u do. Have a great w-end.

You are never to old to learn anything. 18 is young if you are 90.

you could be 50 and still learn to play the drums if you have the desire to do so!!! Go for it!

it's never to late, i know somebody who started with 35 in 1998 and is still playing today
