We renovated a very old farm in Germany with beams n all sorts - withand to be honest we found no great websites - its mostly commen sense - find someone else as silly as us who has already done the work - learn from THEIR mistakes - steal their workers details ;) take the telephone numbers of the best builders yards, wood yards etc..... We found three people in our area - knocked on their doors and just got chatting - we saved a BOMB by doing it this way....people LOVE to brag and share their success and will only be too happy to tell you how to do the job the 'right way' ;) WE actually have made some great freinds because we were so upfront - i recommed it ! GOODLUCK!

get a big skip and gut the place right back to the plaster. chuck everything out, keep the doors banisters and fireplace they might be worth a few quid as reclaimed. if they are sell them and pack the house out with colonist style interior doors about 40 quid each. cheap cheerful and tidy. start with a blank canvas, get cheap and tight but be ruthless at the same time you have to lay down barren earth to start new. don't try and keep "the character" of the old house go for new it saves money and time. restoration is for people who can afford it.

No websites specifically off hand to recommend. I studied interior design, and can tell you it depends on what you're doing. Everything? Or just one room? I have found going to the bookstore and flipping through interiors books and magazines are really helpful and give you really good ideas...and I'm sure you can find cheaper ways to recreate what you like. My father-in-law, for example makes his own furniture....he found a gorgeous chinese coffee table and made it himself. Saved himself over £2,000! Let your neighbours and friends know what you're after and have people start collecting images or ideas. Every little helps!

try buildstore.co.uk
if you are in travelling distance of Swindon I would recommend a trip to the "Self build and property renovation centre" which has only recently opened. You can link to it through Buildstore.

Hope these help.
There's a magazine my wife was given called InsideOut which was packed with information - have a look at the selection in the shops - WHSmiths would be good.

I would definitely recommend you get a good book on this subject, as it will always be there to refer to, there is some excellent books available, but go through them before you buy, to make sure they cover the parts you are likely to need
