Begin with the power supply....

- disconnect everything except the hard drive from the power supply ... does the power supply work ?
- if not .. voila the problem !
- if yes .....
- then connect it back to the mainboard .... does the power still come on ?

If not ... re-seat (remove & put back) all adapters & memory modules on the mainboard ... does it come on now ?

If not ... remove one adapter card at a time & see if it comes on ....if that fails do the same with the RAM modules.

What we are doing here is using process of elimination to find the faulty component that is short circuiting power to the mainboard.

Do it one at a time with ALL components (CD drives, floppy drives, etc ...)

If all this fails you may need to replace the motherboard.

I am thinking it is your CMOS battery since your system isn't starting up at all...get the battery out of the motherboard and first try replacing it...if it works and the puter starts up then go into the BIOS and choose default settings and then restart...should be fine...If it isn't the battery than I would start to check the RAM and other main components of the board...could even be the motherboard...but I am guessing it was working fine and all of a sudden not working...sounds like the mb battery to me!
