There is a spot in my yard that is about 2-3 inches of powdery dirt. What could I put down on top of the dirt have it be less dusty. With the dirt a powder consistancy it is really messy, it is really dusty and I get really dirty just walking through this part of the yard.

Thanks for your suggestions

You should add compost and moisten it. Unless it is just pounded to dust from too much traffic over it.

If you are walking there a lot you need to put something over it, such as mulch or wood chips and let it recover. Cover it with a board if you have to.

Then plant some very tough grasses that will stand up to the wear and tear. Or plant a bush or something that will make people go around that spot. :-)

A great answer to anyone with any kind of soil problem is compost. It will add texture to any type of soil depending upon what the problem is. It lightens up clay soils, add substance to sandy ones; and feeds poor ones.

Add my vote for compost. Organic matter is the way to build soil. In fact you could build a compost pile right on that spot and let it do its work for a couple of years.
