You are right about the first part.
However, when it does happen.....
Do these the night before if possible for best effect.
1. Water. About 1 pint of water per drink you had. It takes that much to metabolize the alcohol and by products.
2. Food. Eat a little. Keep it light but spicy is good. Tobasco and red pepper open the capillaries and improve blood flow which is part of the cause of the headache.
3. Multivitamin. Helps replace vitamins burned up or flushed out by the alcohol.
4. Stay warm and relaxed until you feel fully hydrated then get up and do something that gets your blood going but not too strenuous. Drink more fluids as needed so that you pee almost totally clear.
5. Learn what types of alcohol give you the hangovers and avoid them.

A hangover is basically caused by dehydration in the brain area. There's plenty of home cures and prevention remedies.
You prevent it by drinking as much water as you can before going to bed after a 'session', or drinking milk before a session.
To cure it the simplest as most generally efffective method is an aspirin and lots of water.. Also Dyoralite will help because it replaces your body salts and minerals (re-balances the body's osmotic pressures)

I have heard
that this works:
have a little - just a little - of what you were drinking that brought on the hangover .... and then some black coffee, and then something like juice or fresh fruit for some natural energy ..... I
see that someone suggested fresh pineapple which sounds great to me .... and someone else said orange juice, so maybe you could add that ...fresh juice would be best or if you want just have an orange..
and then as you feel better, some breakfast ...
if you feel like it some spring water mid-morning ....
hope you feel better

The two main physical causes of hangover are low blood sugar and de-hydration. These both cause headaches and nausea, when dehydrated the brain actually shrinks and this causes severe headache. drink plenty of water and raise your blood sugar with planty of carbs, bananas are good. Lucozade can also help.

Drink lots of water to recover from the dehydration and also try and eat something. I know you probably don't feel up to it but you will feel better when you have.
And if that doesn't work there is always the 'hair of the dog'!

alcohol dehydrates you, so drink plenty of water, and get some rest if you can.
