It is indeed a fossil fuel and our use of it is unsustainable, it would take millions of years to replace natually so clearly that is not on the cards!
We will have to adapt to alternative sources of energy like bio-diesel which can be produced from plant crops like palm oil or even algae!
Alternatively there are hydrogen combustion engines (just like burning normal petroleum in an engine) or hydrogen fuel cell where the hydrogen is mixed with oxygen which produces electricity which is stored in a battery and the car runs off that battery!
These alternatives are facing challenges in production such as being inefficient compared with petroleum from crude oil, being more expensive to produce, the task of creating a supply network for the new fuels and the damage it would do to the OIL INDUSTRY!!!
*As you probably knew that already and just posed the question for your own amusement my answer is to anyone who didn't know, you seem quite involved in YA not to know jack about oil!
Are you the same Tyler Durden that posts on break.com?

We are. The problem is the oil that was produced by nature over a period of several hundred millions of years is all being consumed by man in a period of only about 200 years. Wait another 500 million years and there will be all the oil you want.

Grow some more?? WTF?? You cannot grow oil. It's a mineral in the ground that you have to drill for. It takes time for oil to..turn into oil. (I was going to go more in depth, but then I remembered you want to grow oil) Bottom line--You cannot plant an oilseed and have oilplants. It's a natural resource. But thanks for this question. I needed to laugh.
I would have been the 1st to post an answer, but I lost out bc of all the time I spent laughing and kept hitting the wrong keys. But it's ok, it was worth it.

Probably becuase we dont 'grow' oil. Its formed from decaying biological matter under heat and pressure for millions of years.
To re-iterate, we dont grow it.

Oil is a fossil fuel, once that runs out, there is no replacing it.

Well, it wouldn't hurt to cut our dependence on it, and try to find affordable alternative resources.
