Tiger barbs are pretty easy to breed and, contrary to what you read here, are NOT at all picky about water quality, I've bred them in hard alkaline tap water. Howerver they do require a bit of conditioning. Here's some tips
- Separate the males from females. The females are smaller plumper fish.
- Make sure the water is at about 80 degrees or a bit more.
- Condition the fish with live foods, black worms, brine shrimp..
- After a week or conditioning bring the fish together in a breeding tank. The breeding tank should have lots of plants, Barbs are egg scatering fish and will lay where ever. Once the spawning is complete remove the fish as they will eat their eggs.
- The eggs hatch in less than a week, you'll see the babies on the glass and the gravel. Feed them baby brine shrimp.

GOod luck!

Most tropicals do not breed readily in an aquarium setting. You need a large tank with perfect water parameters. The more plants the better. Keep the water at 80F or so. And feed them a wide variety of foods.
