I refer to both crossing at the knees (how women traditional/only do it) & ankle on top of knee as well.

If i cross my legs then it's usually my right ankle on my left knee.

i can't sit with one knee over the other as things get squashed!

I always seem to want to cross my legs with the ankle on the knee because it's far more comfortable. It stretches my muscles when I cannot get up. Crossing at the thighs is usually, ummm, not very comfortable....

Its comfy - stops the muscles aching in the legs I find . . . i cross at the knees as well as foot on the knee and I know that my other male colleagues do too- that tends to happen in times of stress - I think its partly a protection mechanism - its like a way of holding on to yourself under pressure (not in a toilet sense I hasten to add !)

I also notice that I cross my legs in a meeting when I want to appear relaxed to draw someone in. Others would say it is defensive body language but it can be a great way to put a sales target at ease and have them eating out of your palm. Simply uncross the legs and sit forward when they have finished speaking and you are ready to go in for the kill !

Whatever is comfortable, I know a guy who crosses at the knee and another who crosses the with the foot on the other thigh. Comfort! ; )

Whether its male or female, according to chiropractors it is very bad for your posture! If you really must sit with legs crossed at knees, make sure you do so alternatively, otherwise you become muscularly "lop-sided".

I guess it's all down to personal choice, habit, comfort and how you and others view it.

If it bothers you, don't do it. If it bothers others, Who cares unless it makes you too self conscious about your own actions.

Live life how you want to live it and not to fit others stereotypes!
