If you have ATI Driver follow these instructions:

For NVidia Drivers:
http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu_Edgy#How_to_install_Beryl.2FAIGLX_.28Nvidia.29
The guide makes notice that you should make sure that your 3D hardware acceleration is enabled before your proceed;
I have ATI X700 Series and have Beryl installed and working smoothly after I have followed that guide.

there is a very good step by step guide on how to do it on the latest ubuntu release - *Edgy* (or 6.10 as you may call it) here:

also if you are planning to install it on a virtual machine then it won't work- (don't worry why!)

Why ought to you want to position in Beryl itself? From what I understand, Beryl and Compiz blended, forming "Compiz Fusion" it extremely is pre-put in in Ubuntu 9.04 with assistance from default. What I advise you do is: sudo apt-get deploy effortless-ccsm sudo apt-get deploy compizconfig-settings-manager effortless-ccsm = effortless manager compizconfig-settings-manager = progressed manager From what I listen, both opt to be put in for Compiz Fusion to in essence "turn on." Then, hit up equipment - ideas - CompizConfig Settings manager From there you've your "administration panel" of three-D eye sweet. there is also the straightforward manager, at equipment - ideas - effortless CompizConfig Settings manager, yet because it says - it really is a normal manager with restricted progressed ideas. it truly is why I tinker with the progressed one. satisfied to verify there is more advantageous Ubuntu'ers obtainable. get excitement from Linux! it really is awesome.
