Hagar is the female maid servant of Abraham and Sarah in the book of Genesis. With Sarah's permission, Abraham had intercourse with Hagar and she bore him Ishmael an ancestor of the Muslim people. Sarah was following an ancient Middle Eastern practice whereby the maid servant would bear a child in order to possibly bear one yourself. A little time later Sarah would bear a child and named
him Isaac. One day Isaac and Ishmael were playing and Sarah did not appreciate it so she asked Abraham to cast Hagar and the child out of their presence. Abraham conceded because Hagar was in the power of Sarah to do as she pleased. Eventually God appeared to Hagar and told her to not be afraid . Through Ishmael, there would be a great nation.( Muslim people?). The reason I say this is because in the religions of the Middle East ,Abraham is important to 3 religions ; Judaism (ancestor) Christianity(Abraham as father of our faith according to the promise of righteousness through faith) and Islam (Ishmael's progeny).
