If it is an ipod nano it will play music for 24 Hours if the backlight is off, if it is an ipod video 30GB it will last for 14 hours if playing music with the backlight off and if it is an ipod video 80GB it will last for 20 Hours with the backlight off. Go here to check the ipod's battery lasting time of playing music if you don't believe me: http://www.apple.com/ipod.
Hope this helps.

It really depends on wat kind it is. If it's a video then it'll stay on 4 about 12 hrs if u keep the backlight off. And not play any videos. It doesnt matter if u charge it overnight. If it's fully charged, it's fully charged. It doesnt go over.
