4.3 is just the displacement size (a measurement of bore diameter and stroke length) that is why some are V8 and some are V6.

Your motor is most likely an L99, which was essentially a de-stroked version of the 305, yielding a 4.3L displacement. They were introduced in 1994 in the Caprices. The L99 is externally identical to the LT1.

4.3L can refer to MANY different motors from Chevy.

In 1955 there was a 265cid (4.3L) V8, which was also Chevy's first OHV V8.
In 1976 Chevy made a 262cid (4.3L) V8 in an attempt to reduce emissions.
In 1979 Chevy introduced a 267cid (4.3L) V8 in another failed attempt to reduce emissions. This last one was based off of a 200cid V-6 which was the ancestor of the 4.3L V6

Here is a pic of a lightly modified LT1 (L99) in a caprice:

I couldn't find a decent pic of a 4.3L V6 that either hadn't been heavily modified or removed from the vehicle.

Chev made the 4.3 v-8 for the caprice as the only alternative to the lt-1, if I remember correctly. It is not at all to be confused with the 4.3 v-6. And I think caprice is the only car to get the v-8 4.3....WAY smoother than the v-6 with the extra cylinders.

I believe all LT1 engines in caprices police pakage or not had heavy dudy cooling option and police pakage had HD brakes .The 4.3 litre was a V-8 that was installed in caprices in that year range. The LTZ i am not sure about.
