Every time i try to plug a modem into the usb port i get "new hardware" bleep then the one you get when you take a usb cable out.
Please help its doing my head in now i paid like £800 for this computer and i cant get on the bloody internet.

1. Can you connect to Internet with this modem connected via a RJ45 cable ?Your ethernet card is set. If so your major problem solved.
If Not Open IE type 192.168.1.1
IF the page opens proceed further if you know how..

All hardware in your computer will be listed
Make a list for future use.
3.Start/Control Panel/Add New Hardware.
Follow the instructions.
Identify your modem.
When you connect it to USB port it requires different drivers.
Download from manufacturer's website.
Windows may give a warning that the drivers are not signed or approved. If it works ignore the warning.
4. Start/Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager.
see under Human Interface Devices or
Usb Controllers.

When you got your USB modem you also got the installation cd with the driver on it,
Switch off the pc, remove the usb modem , restart the pc, install the cd that came with the modem first, then plug the modem into the usb port, windows should find the new hardware and install the driver for the modem and thats should be it

It sounds like you don't have a internal modem that's why you are trying to use external right? If you have windows XP just click on the new hardware XP should find the driver for you.
