serious answer, yes they do! when a company lays pipes or cables etc they have to notify every land/home owner above it, machines lay these cable and pipes sometimes 100's of feet down and you would never know anything about it, but because the land is yours, you have to be notified

If the nation on which the piece of land is situated owns the nation until the earth's core then, the land owner owns everything till the core as well.
I never thought of owning a piece of land like that.

a person can own a piece of land and not own the mineral rights on or below the land. Be care full when you buy land and make sure you have the mineral rights. if you own the mineral rights and the land then theoretically own everything down to earths core.

That is a good question. But your answer in most cases in NO. In MY case, i am an owner of something called mineral rights. Mineral rights is owning every thing to the core below the surface. So i own what is below the surface but have absolutly nothing to do with whats on top. In some cases though it is good to own whats beneath because of the fact that by some chance there happens to be oil or in my case petroleum gas, You my friend get the "royalties" that get accrued if something like that was discovered. I own some mineral rights that i inherited and petroleum gas was discovered so there for big name companies like conoco phillips, duke energy, and stratland energy pay me every single month to drill and get petroleoum of a piece of property that i dont even own. Its pretty awsome.

Yes. However, in many cases the landowner does not own the mineral rights on that land. You must check the t&c's before you buy.

You just said a piece of land, you didn't said core. Basically core doesn't belong to anybody. It's mother nature's.
