My laptop brand is Toshiba and its hardware and software have damaged. I can't turn on the laptop and after I sent it for repair, they said that the laptop must be reformated. What makes it worse is that if I choose to do so, all my documents, songs, pictures etc will be deleted.

Do you know any other solutions to repair it without deleting my informations? If my laptop has to be reformated, is it wise to upgrade it to Windows Vista? (I'm currently using Windows XP)

Your answers and opinions are much appreciated. TQ!

try norton ghost, then back up files, format drive, and reinstall windows xp, and then install norton ghost, then restore the whole drive, it will usually work fine.
