I bought a jacket about 3 weeks ago and it was expensive but a large patch on the shoulder isn't waxy/ shiney or tough like the rest of the jacket, it is soft and almost like a chamie cloth... itisn't terrible or anything but i don't think it would repel rain and over time it would begin to look worn. What can i put on it to protect it and make it like the rest of the jacket? I can't take it back to the shop as i bought it in Edinburgh and i live far away from there. What would you suggest? Thanks!

I recommend Carr, Day & Martin Leather Conditioner NUMBER TWO - this is a tack product normally used for leatherware..saddles etc - its fan-tastic. It says : softens, preserves & conditions - leaves a shiny protective barrier - non greasy - easy to use -

You just spray it on and rub in and then when its dry buff to a shine and thats it :) . 500ml / 1/2 litre can be purchased fomr any horse tack shop or easiest - ebay. Only one persons selling it on ebay and its cheap - here is a link -

Usually leather cleaning and protecting products that you use on shoes can help this problem, but this could be a defect in the material of the coat, I would not expect miracles with this problem, sometimes in England they use poor quality materials, I have bought quite a few things in England like this myself as I travel to England and have relatives that live there and in Scotland and Wales. Good Luck !

You can saddle soap it to make sure it is clean and then apply any good sealer such as silicone spray or various pastes used on boots.

Some people like to use mink oil but it tends to darken the leather. By the way, for scratches and darkening bare spots you can use shoe polish and then seal it with the silicone.

This is also a good way to deal with mold, mildew and any other accidents that happen to smooth leather.

All of these products should be near the shoe polish in your local stores.

You could use mink oil or a silicone sealant. Use the mink oil first and let it dry. Follow up with the silicone sealant. Follow directions for both products. Once you have it dry cleaned (the only way you should clean leather jackets) repeated the procedure.

Go to another leather shop in your area and ask the same question of a sales person there. Be sure to take the jacket with you.

If was expensive, then I think that the sections should be of matching quality, I would send it back within 30 days and ask for a better quality or a refund.
