The dark glasses are not for the blind person to see, they are for the sighted people not to see. This is because sighted people tend to not like to become aware that another person cannot see.

The analogy would be for something to prevent hearing people from becoming aware that another person cannot hear. But that's easy - just don't interact with them! Which is probably what many hearing people do do!

Haven't you noticed that blind people sometimes have gray-ish eyes. The appearance of some blind person's eyes may not look so normal, that's why the cover it up with sunglasses. With deaf people, the only thing that will come out of wearing earmuffs is hot ears.

Blind people are wearing dark glasses because of SOCIETY's sensibilities...maybe their blind eyes don't have a particularly appealing look. Plus they can't see anything coming towards their faces, and the dark glasses will protect their eyes from debris. Just because they can't see with them, doesn't mean that they want them torn out or gouged accidentally.

A deaf person's ears are generally unmarked. Therefore esthetically normal, and don't need covering up.

The blind people are for the most part not trying to display their handicap with their sunglasses. The dog/cane should be a good enough indication for people. They wear sunglasses for different reasons, not all blind people are completely blind, and bright lights cause them disorientation and discomfort. Others wear them because they are being considerate, their eyes do not focus in on things the way a sighted person's eyes do, and in many cases the eyes themselves are discoloured and some people can not handle looking at them.

Deaf people have no feeling in their ears, therefore have no need for earmuffs. Good question though.

Because deaf people usually have normal looking ears, while blind people sometimes have abnormal looking eyes, so they cover 'em up with shades.
