The origional theory is that a woman is born with all the eggs she is ever going to produce however a study was done a couple of years ago (http://www.webmd.com/infertility-and-reproduction/news/20040310/women-not-born-lifetime-eggs )which suggest maybe egg production does continue after birth. So either way you've go evidence to support your side. You win.

March 10, 2004 -- A surprising finding about female fertility in mice is challenging the notion that women are born with a lifetime's supply of eggs.
Researchers have long believed that female mammals, including mice and humans, were born with a fixed supply of egg-producing follicles in their ovaries. In contrast, most male mammals continuously generate new sperm cells that allow them to reproduce throughout their adult life.
But a new study published in the March 11 issue of Nature shows that female mice continue to produce eggs to replace damaged ones after birth.
Researchers say the discovery indicates that females may share the ability to replenish reproductive cells during life, and if the same process occurs in humans it may also help explain why female fertility declines rapidly after age 30.

You are talking about : Oogenesis look it up in any encyclopedia or dictionary.... This is the (genesis -making,birth of, beginning, of Oo's eggs) this is completed before or shortly after BIRTH> Hormones later about 11-14 y/o or puberty age Trigger there full development and the monthly process of Ovulation - where a single Mature egg (normally) is released on a monthly cycle - again (normally) alternating which ovary releases it... THIS continues until you stop producing the hormones that make this process occur - MENOPAUSE................. thats the short of it.. ;-P

Women are born with all of the eggs that they will use in their life time. They stop developing those eggs to maturity to use in procreation during menopause. That is, if there are no other medical factors that are going on that stops those prossess earlier.

I believe that when you are going into menopause the eggs are slowly stopping their production. The finally stop when you are no longer having periods

they are born with all their eggs. They drop them approximately monthly until they are all gone. The drops start with first period and slow down with menopause to eventually stop.
