You say "are animals more deserving?" Animals don't see life as we humans do, people don't tend to put them into categorize of deserving or undeserving. People in general see them as vulnerable, they tend not to think of the vulnerability of children. The dog that savages a child is reviled, when it is the dogs stupid owner that should be. Too many people humanize animals, and while it is true that humans are animals too, they forget that animals are not human. It is also true that there are laws to protect children, and that if these fail there is little that charity can do.

Most people, at least in the U.K. do respond more to animal suffering. The logic seems to be that animals can't always fend for themselves and need our help whereas humans should be able to look after themselves. The other reason is we all see animals as cuddly ,friendly things and readily respond to requests for assistance from animal charities etc. As regards humans, how many of us are aware or see human suffering in the U.K. O.K it is there but the average person does not see it also tend to feel that the alleviation of human suffering is the responsibility of the state(social services etc.)land should not be a matter for charity.

if i see an animal hurt if affects me more than maybe a human.know a lot of people are like that.few reasons why-animals are more defenceless.

i cant bear to see an animal suffer in any way.i am scared to go on the pets bit on here because of the sick things i might read.but it is also good to read about people who do love their pets.

i would say both humans and animals deserve the money equally.

i will never know how a human could hurt another human or an animal.evil,evil,evil.wish there was justice.

My mother gives all her money to animal charities and totally ignores anything to do with humans. It drives me crazy. However, animal charities MUST exist. We must strive towards a world without cruelty, be it to humans or animals. It's a difficult one. Why is it 'the kindest thing' to put a suffering animal to sleep when a loved one must go through an agonising death? Some warped sense of superiority I suppose (and by the way, it's 'plight' not plite!)

What a wonderful point you make here!! My Star question!!!

Our life, attitude and ideas have become so much commercial that none of us can expect to get anything without giving something in return.... that does not hold good for charity.

Also, another human being may always be seen subconsciously as a competitor (once again due to overly influential market oriented psyche) and how can there be any question of charity in that case?

The plight of the poor is never truly understood by the rich no matter how loudly they say or communicate, because there is always a lack of confidence and understanding between two classes of human beings.

I totally agree with you that it is simply preposterous that human beings are more concerned about animals than other poor or oppressed human beings.

The British have always been accused of caring for animals more than humans. When I see the way animals are treated in some other countries, I realise that British animals, in general, do have very good lives! Maybe it's because we think that animals can't do anything to change their plight, they are completely dependent on the whims of us humans. It's true to say, however, that babies and young children are also totally dependent on us, which is why I always favour Children's charities, especially those like the NSPCC.

Animals have less choices in life than humans do. We dominate the planet and it's up to us to care for it and the animals that live here too. It's because of us that animals suffer so why not dedicate some effort caring for them. It really irritates me when people gripe about stuff and do nothing to help a situation. It's just like not voting and then complaining about the end results.

This is strictly a question of individual priorities and does not apply to everyone.
There are groups that care very deeply about animals and there are groups that do not care at all.
Humans have the capacity to help themselves while animals have become very dependent as their natural habitats are slowly but surely being taken away from them.
Both need compassion and understanding depending upon the animal or the person.

i think most of these people have their priorities all wrong. If you are cruel to an animal you can be sent to prison and fined and made so you can never have a pet again. But children all around the world are neglected starved and beaten or worse and what happens to them causing this pain? they get a slap on the wrists and fined but nothing is stopping them from having more children to do it all over again and again and again. A man can walk out his house rape a woman and kick a dog to death on the same day and he will pay the price more for kicking the dog to death while the poor woman's life is in bits. PRIORITY HAS TO BE HUMANS.

Humans can and do control their own environment unless they are children. There are a great many programs to try and stop the suffering of children by uncaring adults. Animals are usually helpless when it comes to this abuse and should be investigated and thought of as much as human abuse. The two are not really comparable.
