Well if we're just higher animals, that's just another reason to hunt and kill animals. If lower animals can hunt and kill eachother without you getting mad about, why can't higher animals join the fun? Also, removing a natural predator from the equation can lead an animal population to grow past its threshold and use up its environment, which ends up shrinking it again.
Besides, meat is delicious.

I agree, poachers suck!
Many people are not CURRENTLY domesticating dogs and cats. Their species were domesticated thousands of years ago. These species actually rely on human beings for survival (you don't see cats and dogs in the jungle).
Animals may have a soul, and we may or may not have one. It really doesn't matter. Fact is killing other species is part of nature, its the cornerstone of evolution (exponentially increasing species, yet dwindling resources). Kinda creates competition doesn't it.
So far we do seem to be the smartest of all creatures as we've learn how to control our environment (fairly well). We have thus earned the privilege of being the "top of the food chain" if you will.

Are plants considered living things?? If so, what could we survive on??? Some hunt for the fun of it, some hunt for the money that they get, other's hunt for the meat. The Indians, not the ones from Indiana, use every part of the buffalo to eat and survive on, if they didn't have that, would they be living now?? We don't know if they have a soul or not. We can't talk to them or communicate with them intillecutally to find out. Until then, happy eating.

Not everyone lives in comfortable western society, Some people do it to survive, In the case of African poachers Ivory is worth huge amounts of money on the black market.
Being an Agnostic the God argument doesn't come into it.
However people are worth looking after and you need to give people incentives to promote conservation and sustainable hunting reserves are one such method of ensuring that future generations get the opportunity to see wildlife living in their natural habitat and not as an exhibit of extinct form in a museum.
In Britain people are prepared to pay large sums of money to shoot grouse, which pays for the upkeep of moorland which would otherwise be developed, whether as sheep pasture, mineral quarries or housing estates.

Thousands of deer are crashed by cars here in MI every year. If people want to hunt them and eat them, why not? The ones hit by cars just go to waste.
