I've just finished reading the Laws on Reptile Licencing in all states and territories in Australia and found so many loop holes to get a Restricted licence from other states and then get a Restricted Licence in your home state without having to do a thing apart from change address twice without moving and even the E.P.A can not do anything about it.

Major Reforms are needed if they can uniform gun laws why don't they uniform Reptile laws?

Yes I am talking about Australia, I am currently holding talks with the Queensland Parks and Wildlife service about this huge problem we have here and they even admit the majority of fools that work for them have no idea at all, I own a Reptile farm (mainly Lizards and Turtle's) just started with snakes 6 months ago and already have 48 python's, I started buying from pet stores and was 4 different ways of looking after spotted python's from 4 stores, Not good when considering that these people have to do a course on Reptile husbandry and still get it wrong, NEVER BUY FROM PET STORES THEY ARE ONLY PROFFIT DRIVEN
The biggest joke is that you can have Fresh Water crocs in Victoria but I am not permited to have them until I hold a demonstraters permit and I have a creek that runs through my property that is infested with them, escape is there excuse but i have lace monitors in an out enclouser and thats no problem I can harp on about that all night but I won't bore you.....

good if australia can hire people who are knowledgable about reptiles to do licensing, i was reading about a seizure of reptiles that started as a drug raid and they showed the EPA employee holding a common boa and saying that they were dangerous reptiles who reached 10 meters (i cant remember the weight he quoted but it was way off too), it sounded like he was describing either a reticulated python or a anaconda. common boas only get to 8 ft average, what is that 2.5 meters? so it could be a good idea as it would keep people from getting a snake as an impulse buy, they would have to research and learn how to care for them prior to getting a license, but if they keep idiots like this guy with no idea what he's talking about it is a bad thing as snakes can be wonderful pets to a RESPONSIBLE snake keeper.
i will look for the article i was reading and try to update my answer with it.

It's just a reptile big deal. A gun is more serious and can cause more harm than a reptile.
