How does one become what they already are?

We are not seperate from our source, and the source is perfect beyond question, so how can we be less that that which we are?

If we are part and parcel of perfection and we think that we are not perfect then we must be mistaken.

If we are making a mistake, then we need to correct it by no longer thinking of ourselves as imperfect.

Seeing ourselves as less than perfect assumes that we see some part of God as imperfect, or see a God that can makes mistakes.

How likely is that?

Love and blessings Don

well there are three perspectives on this that im aware of;

one there is a god, if so god is perfect and omniscient, and therefore all creation, including you, is omniscient and perfect,
in which case you dont need to become perfect, just to realise the nature of reality for yourself

the second is there is no god and no spiritual reality
only science and mathematics
in which case, as precise absolute laws govern all of existance
you are already perfect, by definition
as such there is nothing you need to do

and perhaps looking at happiness and inner peace are good ideas

the third suggestion is the buddhist one
that says no there is no god, but reality is spiritual
the two schools of tibetan budhism for example that are considered the "highest" teachings
are the mahamudra and dzogchen schools

they state that you are already perfect, but that there is a clear difference between the nature of reality, and the living realisation of that nature

the similarity these three perspectives take, is that they assume the essential nature of the self to be the object of the statement about perfection or not

and they assume that the idea of inperfection is due to the egoic perceptions and identifications of the mind-identified state of being

and that the way to realise this perfection for the self, lies through conscious recognition
of the essential nature, over identification with the mindstuff

Here's how:

Step 1. Eliminate competition:
Kill everyone on the planet.

Step 2. Define "perfection":
Define it in a way that allows the person to meet these criterias.

Step 3. Testing:
Check the the definition of perfection against the person's own attributes. If step 2 was done correctly, then of course, the person should meet the criterias easily.

Step 4: Realisation:
Declare oneself as being 'perfect'.

Step 5: Celebrate:
Enjoy.

On a serious note:
We can't. We don't. Why should we anyway?

To be perfect means you are 100% without flaw. Moral flaws, emotional flaws, physical flaws.

Many of us can be catagorized as "perfectionists" and in some areas we are. We excel in a given area. However we falter in other areas of our life.

Perfect means never making a mistake. Never uttering an unkind word. Never entertaining negative thoughts. Never leaving a dirty dish in the sink. Never leaving your house in anything less than a perfectly starched and ironed garment.

Humans were not meant to be perfect. We are meant to be individuals. Combine millions of personalities and traits among the human race and it is a prescription for imperfect humans as ideas will conflict. Preferences will not match person to person. Faiths will vary creating further debate. On and on.

A perfect world with perfect humans would mean we live in a Utopia. We all know this is not going to happen. Perfect mean you are above someone else. One without flaws looking down upon those less perfect creatures.

Perfect would be a lonely pedastal to be on.

Personally I like my flaws. They keep me on my toes and remind me from time to time not to make the same mistakes over and over.

Being perfect would exclude us from the common people. It would create a dividing line and plunge us into a world of solitude because not many tolerate the superority attitude of those who seem to think they ARE perfect.

If we were perfect we would be sitting on the left hand of God. Human's greed, competitive natures, envy......all preclude perfection. Better to appreciate the attributes we do have instead of wishing for something we will never have.

You know, when you ask that question. It reminds me of being perfectionist once before.

You know, humankinds are already created in imperfection. It is for the sake of the nature's equilibrium. The law of nature is already so.

E.g. there's the good guys and the bad guys in the world. There are these policemen and the thieves robbing the banks. If we don't have these thieves roaming around, there wouldn't be such jobs as policemen.

Anything that is created by God has its purposes. And our purposes as a human being is to keep doing practices and being a better person. Allow yourself to do mistakes and learn from it.

Because my teacher's once said, the best teacher of all teachers are doing mistakes!

"Basically we are not perfect at all."

Perfectness of human is the perfectness of his soul as flesh can not be perfect. Seeking the perfectness of sole should be the main goal in our life. You're asking how do we become perfect. well we'd rather take after J.C as he was the perfectness himself.

Impossible. Only Jesus was the perfect human being. He died for us because he knew that we could never be perfect. Read the book of Revelation. Nobody on earth is worthy of opening the scrolls. Only the Lamb who was slain.

We don't become perfect.... we keep trying though.... the wise forget the word perfect and concentrate on removing or reducing imperfections as a task to be carried on as long as one lives.

It takes long practice and experience. Sometimes you accept that it will never be quite perfect, especially when it comes to human nature, but you can be close, or try your best.

Know yourself first. It's not that hard. Look and see:

Ego sum = I am ... Therefore I = Ego

When you realize this, what follows is even easier because it does it by nature!0!

All you have to do is realize what you are, that will take you to who you are, then you(what) will know the truth, then you will be free, then you(who) will be able to evolve consciously.

It's about time you wake up and smell the coffee!0!
