I propose you just seaside resorts. I guess with 3 children you will be not coming here to visit towns and museums. I must say that for me and my family holidays have always meant "seaside". I'm just living in the countryside of Tuscany and also here it could be awesome but I'm sure yr 2 first children (the youngest third can not yet complain...!!) would be bored just after a few days. Mostly of the resorts I'm suggesting are not so overcrowded mainly if you can choose and you're not coming here by end July/early August.
That's only a matter of taste and other people will be able to suggest you different sites. Anyway these are my tips:
If you are on a budget I suggest you the sandy beaches of the east coast in the region of Marche or even better Abruzzo.
Villages like Numana, Civitanova Marche, Porto s.Giorgio.
Just on the border with Abruzzo you can go to San Benedetto del Tronto. In Abruzzo try Alba Adriatica and Giulianova Lido or Pineto. Down to the south some place in Puglia as Torre Canne and Ostuni. Still in Puglia Gallipoli has nice beaches.
In Calabria nice beaches at Capo Vaticano, Soverato and Crotone
On the west coast, proceding to the North and suitable for small children (sandy beach and not too deep water),you can try Tropea, Scalea (a bit rocky)and Maratea.
Formia and Terracina (I've been there long ago, I'm not aware abt. possible water pollution- Take more info here; all previous sites have rather clean waters).
Porto S.Stefano, Capalbio, Marina di Grosseto, Marina di Cecina, Follonica, S.Vincenzo and the exclusive and expensive Punta Ala.
Viareggio and Forte dei Marmi (great night lifetime there but also ok for children- beaches are awesome while water is not that clean) Both are also rather expensive due to the huge offer of amusements.
I've never been northern than here but I know there are nice spots with beach in Santa Margherita, Rapallo, Diano Marina, Loano, Imperia and Savona.
I've for sure forgot a few names but above listing it's just from my mind and it's not so easy for me to remember all the places where I've been.
If you need for more info feel free emailing me (click on my profile for email address).

Sorry but can't agree with the previous answers since big city's or overloaded beach resorts are not the ideal place with small children nor relaxing. I'd recommend you the beautyful Tuscany. Lovely spots with family-friendly small Hotels/Guesthouses/Appartments.

I don't think Rome is good for young children.

I would listen to Martox45, he lives there and knows. I think children the age of yours would like the shore.

Martox gives good advice.

St. Patrick's Day is widely known on March 17, his religious ceremonial dinner day and the anniversary of his loss of life in the 5th century. The Irish have mentioned immediately as a spiritual holiday for hundreds of years. On St. Patrick's Day, which falls for the period of the Christian season of Lent, Irish families might traditionally attend church in the morning and rejoice in the afternoon. Lenten prohibitions against the intake of meat have been waived and persons might dance, drink, and ceremonial dinner—on the classic meal of Irish 1st Baron Verulam and cabbage. Up till the mid-nineteenth century, maximum Irish immigrants in usa have been individuals of the Protestant midsection classification. whilst the great Potato Famine hit eire in 1845, on the factor of one million undesirable, uneducated, Catholic Irish began to pour into usa to flee starvation. Despised for his or her religious ideals and humorous accents by the yank Protestant majority, the immigrants had worry finding even menial jobs. whilst Irish people in the rustic 's cities took to the streets on St. Patrick's Day to rejoice their background, newspapers portrayed them in cartoons as inebriated, violent monkeys. even in spite of the shown fact that, the Irish quickly began to understand that their great numbers endowed them with a political means that had yet to be exploited. They began to regulate, and their vote casting block, frequently going on because of the fact the "eco-friendly device," became an significant swing vote for political hopefuls. by surprise, annual St. Patrick's Day parades became a prepare of capability for Irish people, besides as a could-attend journey for a slew of political applicants. In 1948, President Truman attended manhattan city 's St. Patrick's Day parade, a proud 2d for the various Irish whose ancestors had to combat stereotypes and racial prejudice to detect acceptance in usa. As for why we don't produce different holiday trips - in keeping with hazard it is because of the fact the founders of those cultural communities in the US did no longer deliver their traditions to america and proceed to nurture them mutually as finding a sparkling existence right here. yet concepts you - we do have holiday trips that are known in numerous components. right here in California, Cinco de Mayo is widely known. i've got been to Greek and Italian gala's. in keeping with hazard they are actually not "gimmicky" adequate to get excited approximately (i.e. donning eco-friendly and eating countless beer).
