If you are looking for a dog that's low-maintenance, skip puppies of any type. Go to your local animal shelter and watch first for a little while how the dogs interact. Usually they are much easier to care for, as the shelter should have already checked out any health problems before hand. Talk to the people who work there regarding various dogs and get their feedback on individual ones. Then make your choice. Remember, all dogs need love and attention, regardless of how easy they are to care for.

Are you already thinking of REPLACING your dog with another one in case something happens to the one you have now, or are you going to put him down? I guess Im reading your question the way it was meant. DO NOT GET another dog now as the one you have NEEDS ALL YOUR LOVE and attention with what time he has left. Dogs have feelings also just like we do, and IF you bring another one in he will know it and probably will just give up the will to live, and think that you DO NOT LOVE HIM. PLEASE DO NOT GET ANOTHER.

Greyhounds are very easy to deal with. They sleep and rest most of the time and are fairly low maintenance.

When they are pups, they all need the same amount of care and training, regardless of breed. Just like taking care of a kid.
