First off, make sure the dog doesn't have worms. When my dog was skinny, I would feed her as much as she wanted. Also, get a dog food that is for active dogs or one that has more fat in it. I have also put a small amount (just a drizzle) of vegetable oil on my dog's food before. It has helped to had weight and improve her coat. Make sure to feed a high quality dog food.

Boxers are not 'gobblers' at one sitting like other dogs. If it is ok in your household (if you don't have other dogs that are gobblers and/or overweight) the best way to feed Boxers is leave a high-quality dry food out all the time. I have done this with mine, and they maintain a good weight (after they get past the typical 'thin' ages of 1-3 years old, anyway). Good luck!

At that age he should be feed 1cup of dry kibble or possibly 2 depending on his activity level. Boxers are supposed to have their ribs shown slightly. A lot of people think they are under fed. If he hasn't had a recent check up for yearly shots, make an appointment to see your vet. Is he on monthly heartworm medication? Be sure to take a fecal sample to vet for tapeworm and any other parasites.

All dogs should be fed twice a day.It is better for their digestion. Also they should be fed a good quality meat based (meat should be at least the first 2-3 ingredients) food.
Your dog should go to the vet for a complete geriatric exam to rule out issues such as kidney, diabetes, etc.
