If you play properly it is definitely one of the better bets in the casino. Next to being a skilled poker player that is. Typical house edges for blackjack in the midwest (where I am from) range around 0.7%.
If you don't play basic strategy well, however, you would probably would want to play the pass line in craps instead (with as much "odds" bets as you can afford)

BlackJack does not have the best odds for the player in terms of what a player wins with a bet on the table. The odds on this game are 1-1 or 1.5-1 (if dealt a black jack).
I think you might be confused a bit with the question. Black Jack is by far the best game for the player in the casino as the house advantage is the lowest on this table. An earlier answerer noted that the advantage was around .7 for the house. That's probably pretty close to the house advantage. What does that mean? It means that every dollar racked in, the house will ulitimately get 7 cents. Other games are much higher. The reason, the odds. If a casino is going to offer you 36-1 on a table (roulette) there's going to be a 36-1 chance on a specific number that you are going to loose your $. If you don't win....the casino does.
If you want to gamble and loose less money over time, stick to BlackJack.

OK some people don't know what they are talking about, I'll give you a run down I'm a casino Manager and have been in the business for 21 years.
Baccarat Banker 1.06%
Baccarat Player 1.24%
Craps Pass/Come 1.41%
Craps Don't pass/don't come 1.36%
If you play perfect Blackjack you can cut the house edge to .7% but it's something that I've only every seen rarely if you want a more realistic view of BJ then it closer to 2%. BJ is a difficult game to say what the house edge is purely because it's the only variable % that a casino will offer.

The best odds are in Craps, not Blackjack. For best results, bet the Pass Line with as high of a secondary odds bet that the casino will allow (in some cases, 100x your original bet, others only 2x).

Technically yes it does .... but that's not saying too much based on the fact that Roulette is heavily stacked in favour of the house as is three card poker. Blackjack is the only casino game that actually involves a 'skill' elelment so using that theory you can have the best chance of winning.
