This is probably a weird question, but does anybody know any drug that has a detergent-like smell (maybe morphine?). I've got problems with a neighbour who lives in a flat right opposite mine, and I know he does drugs, which is worrying as he has two young children. There's always a really strange strong smell in particular - I don't know how to describe it - sort of like a medicinal/detergent smell, but it's not, it is a drug, and the only thing I can think it may be is morphine maybe?
Could anybody help with what it could be?

That's the problem - I have contacted the police and local authority and they're not doing anything. My only other choice is the drug's squad, but I'm too scared. I don't want to cause problems for the children or scare them

Everyone's telling me to contact child services - I have. I've contacted the police, local authority/social services. They're all aware of it, have been for 8 months, and thery're doing nothing. I've approached the guy about it, told him that I've reported him, and it's still going on. I have proof and yet still nothing's being done about it. There's nothing else I can do that I haven't done already.

I don't know where you live. But if you live in the USA, just say to your local law enforcement that there's a meth lab next door, and stand back. If that doesn't work, call your congressman. If you live in England, well then you're on a different wave length, as the meth problem in the UK hasn't reached the epidemic levels it has in North America and Australia. In that case you'll need to talk to your local MP. If it is a meth lab as suspected, MOVE! Meth is a recipe of many poisonous and volatile substances. There are many verified reports of inadvertent ignition, that have resulted in death, injury and extensive property damage. The toxins found in meth, can range from benign to fatally poisonous, either through oral ingestion, skin absorbtion or inhalation. Close physical proximity to any of these chemicals and substances, can cause the non user to test positive for meth use. To reinforce the danger of a meth lab, Police call in hazmat teams to remove the lab, and even that can be extremely dangerous. The highly addictive nature of meth, and the subsequent dillusional, often pathological behaviour of a meth user, combine to create a false sense of technical understanding in the user themselves, so going next door and telling your neighbour that you think they're doing drugs and that you feel their children are in danger, will most certainly backfire. If your neighbour is indeed a meth user or cook, you will be dealing with a person who will be paranoid and dysfunctional, liable to react in a violent, irrational manner. If you can get no one in authority to listen to you, go to a drugs addiction couselling office and have one of the counsellors visit you to ascertain if the scent is indeed that of a drugs lab. You never know, it may be explosives he's cooking up next door. Loads of cleaners and other household goods can be used to make an explosive device. Good luck.

Morphine doesn't have a smell. If this guy IS running a drugs factory, he has to create a lot of toxic waste and usually dump it in his yard, so the smell might be drugs being cooked, but it's probably more likely that it's leftovers, or even the reaction of plant life to the waste (when it gets poured onto grass for instance). Toxic waste is very dangerous, these chemicals are also highly flammable, and eventually drug dealers get stupid and blow themselves up. The cops should be on this like a pack of rats, if they're not helping call the drug squad

Child Protection Services. Now that you are aware of this situation, you are also responsible for the welfare of these young children. Don't take any thing to the grave that you can't live with in life. Do something NOW!!!!!

Why not contact child service and the police and have them check out what is going on if you are so concerned about the children ????????

My guess would be a meth lab... or certainly a processing place. Call the SRS child protective services.
I dunno, the guy could be a clean freak.
Here's the deal about meth labs. They are extremely toxic to the environment. Those children if exposed to those chemicals are having their poor little bodies exposed to extremely toxic and damaging influences. They deserve to be protected.
Google Meth or Faces of Meth and look at the picture results of meth labs if you need further convincing.

Use you loaf for a second here....If you knock on his door and just come out with it"I can smell something odd, what is it" he'll know that your on the case and that he'll have to either stop or rearrange his options. Either way he'll know that you know and that he's been noticed. Just simple human phycology,,,,,give it a try,,,cant hurt.

morphine has no smell. not that i have ever noticed. I can't imagine what it is. Does he have a washer and dryer, maybe hes doing laundry. Do you have any proof he is doing anything wrong? That his children aren't being taken care of. If you have reported him and they have found nothing wrong, then maybe you should mind your own business.

Sounds like you live next to a meth lab. Your neighbor is cooking methamphetamines....very dangerous...could explode if he messes up, either move out or turn him in.
