I am living in the smokers' paradise otherwise known as Germany. Tobacco is so normalized here it is like when I was a kid in North America circa 1978. You can smoke on trains, in video stores and anywhere you want in a restaurant. There is no stigma against it. I once thought the laws back home were too draconian; not any more, though.

i've been smoking over 30 years and i abhor the smell of cigarettes.
smokers CAN smell others' cigarette smoke. people with sinus problems can't. some people who smoke have a lot of sinus problems.
i have to wash my hands and brush my teeth after each cigarette. and only smoke outside.
at the time i thought not being able to smoke in the grocery store was wrong. i changed my mind, too.

Funny you should ask this burning question, I can't stand even my own cigarette smoke blowing in my face - let alone someone elses. I have smoked on and off since I was 12 (High School - wanted to be cool) Not sure what it was like for you but all us girls used to go to the loo in between classes and at recess etc and I HATED the smell, it used to make me want to throw up. Now as for the whole non-smoking thing I'm there too at times, like when I get pregnant - I refuse to smoke, yet someone elses smoke is still the same to me when I'm pregnant and not smoking to not being pregnant and smoking - so for me either way IT'S GROSS!! Hope this answers your question. Oh and good luck finding somewhere smoke free
;-D

I do find it annoying sometimes. I think it is perfectly acceptable to ban smoking in most public buildings, but when they take it too far and ban it in all restaurants and bars, I think it is out of hand. I pay twice as much for cigarettes because of taxes, the first tax they talk about raising is the cigarette tax and now its becoming so that I can only smoke in my house, which I don't do because I like people (non-smokers) to come over and a smokey house isn't conducive to that. If I pay so much in Taxes for smoking, then I should at least be able to smoke in a bar or outside on the street.

I know what you mean. I smoke like a pack a day, and I cannot deal with other people's smoke, especially in the car. Oddly, it is less irritating if I smoke while the other person is smoking. I do not smoke in my bedroom, only in the kitchen with the window wide open. I appreciate the US smoking laws too.

I smoke and I don't enjoy second hand smoke either. After just having one, the last thing I need is another blast. This has encouraged me to be more considerate of others, especially the non-smokers.

Smokers don't notice other smoke.

I live in a city where smoking is banned in bars, restaraunts, etc, and now I am much more sensitive to the smell.

It's 2007. Why is anyone still smoking? Sheesh.

The only time i as a smoker find others smoke annoying is when i don't have nothing to smoke. but i do respect people who find it repulsive . I don't want to be annoying people or giving them my diseases. I want to keep all my germs to myself. i don't like sharing. well good i do., but i don't share bad.
