I feed my cat whenever she's hungry but I feed her little bits each time (otherwise it goes dry) She usually eats a tin a day( given throughout the day) but also with dry food. It's handy and very healthy for cats its better the tinned food.
Also don't give whiskas there's something in that food that makes cats hungrier and eat more.

If the can is 6oz, then half in the morning and half later is about right. Actually, I feed my 9 yr old cat one 6oz can a day plus half a handful of dry kibble.

By the way, you do know about the cat canned food recall put out yesterday, I hope? Go to www.menufoods.com for the recall information. There is a big list and you must find out if the caned food you are feeding your kitty is on that list. IAMS and Euenuba initiated their own recall yesterday too as a precautionary. Read their press release on www.IAMS.com

you should leave dry food out for grazing when your cat wants - unless you notice it getting fat, let it have dry food when it wants, then give a little wet food, am or pm, more as a special time. Also, tartar control pounces work well for treats to help clean its teeth - once it gets older. Also, there are feeding guidelines on the cans of food that go by weight. Weigh yourself, then weigh yourself holding your cat to get an accurate weight.
