The word comes from the tribe of Judah, which most present-day Jews come from. Judah was one of the twelve sons of Jacob, who was the grandson of Abraham and Sarah. Some Jews take offense at the term if used by a non-Jew; for me, it's simply what I am, and I'm happy to be a Jew.
