In China there was no native religion of personal consolation and hope that competed with Buddhism. The Chinese people are not particularly religious, but Buddhism did flourish in times of trouble when people were not satisfied with Taoism or Confucianism, as we shall see later in the course.

Buddhism was uprooted from its birth place by the violent followers of the then Shankracharya and Hindu kings.

Buddhism is not vastly different from Hindu Philosophy.

Lord Buddha was in search of the reason of existence and demise. Once the revelations transcended on him he spread the religion as he walked. And it was in north westerly direction., where he had many followers .

for that matter even christianity and islam are growing at faste rate in china whereas in india not so. somehow people following Hindu religion feel fulfilled spiritually than other people and that is why conversions take place in other religions than from hinduism. so islam makes it a crime for a muslim to change his faith from islam which is punishable by death in certain islamic countries. so there are are very few muslims converting to other religions.
