It depends on how old your dog is?

You could take him to guard dog training classes - but they generally don't train dogs until they are more than 2 years old.

And I would only recommend this if you were looking for a guard dog for your home and family - there is never any reason to make a dog more aggressive if the only thing a person wants is to "look tough".

The term "aggressive" is a slippery slope. You've been blessed with a mild tempered dog that almost anyone would be tickled pink to get. Some dogs have the good sense to only bark when they sense something is amiss. Do you really want him to bark at everything that moves??

If you want a guard dog, get a home security system and camera installed so you can see what's going on out there.

I don't understand why you would want to make a dog aggressive. That doesn't make sense to me. My dog sees someone walk by my house and wants to go play with them. He loves everyone. Sounds like he just needs to be socialized, if he just sits by you. Take him to an area dog park where there is a lot of room for him to run and play. You have to be willing to play too. You can't just take a dog to a park and let him sit and you just can't sit there too. It may take a while (several visits) and lots of treats. But, get some tennis balls or rope toys, and get out there and play with him. Reward him when he playswith lots of praise or a small treat. Let him know that that is the behavior you seek. The other dogs will probably join in and play with you and your dog as well. After several times, he will want to run and play with the others and visit other people. I would not want to train a dog to be aggressive; friendly yes. You must be willing to work too. Good luck.

Sounds like your dog is fine.. you dont want an aggresive dog... he might just need some more socialization... try a class....He will be there for you if you need him and if you have bonded with him... I cant believe some of the previous answers!!! Do not abuse him!! Do not feed him raw burger with gun powder!! Do not have freinds tease him... Just love him and if he needs to he will protect you.. what kind of dog is he? do you really want to have him bark? as long as he isn't "acting" scared then he i a great dog... be happy!!!smile

Trust me, the last thing you want to do is to make a dog aggressive, and I can't understand why you would want to do that. You should consider yourself very lucky, that you have a friendly dog. Aggressive dogs, cause major problems, and can get you into serious trouble, if they hurt someone.

You really don't want an aggressive dog because if it gets out and bites another animal or human being then you will find out what an aggressive owner or human can get.If you treat your animal right and train correctly you can have a loyal mate and a loyal guard dog.

Take the dog on a 3 day camping trip away from everythng and you will see his natural guardian traits come out. Then he will be different when you get back home.
If you sleep outside without a tent, he will stay uip all night guarding you , maybe even walking a circle around you all night.
He will gain his sense of what he is from nature.

When the dog eats its food, snatch it away and see what it do. Give it a toy and keep pulling it when its in the dogs mouth. Feed it raw meat. When you pet it don't just rub the dog hard and give some hard pats every now and then. Bring another dog around too can make it aggressive especially a mean one.
