It sounds like the condyle space of your temporal mandibular joint is inflamed with fluid, forcing the disc to slip, causing the "cracking noise". (Please don't quote me on this, my terminology is very rusty!)
Don't open your mouth wider than the "click point", you'll only inflame the joint space more. 1. Eat only soft foods, no gum chewing! 2. Ice the jaw muscles, massage, then gently stretch your opening. 3. Take 2 Advil every 4 hours.
This is what I think is the best treatment, having experienced it myself!

Could be TMJ - Try not to open your jaw too much and avoid excessive movement. Also, do not clash your teeth. You can search other similar answers for this.

This sounds like there is a little subluxation,(laxity) in your T-M joint. (temporo-mandibular). This is a common but minor problem. Unless it becomes troublesome it is best left alone.
