Doesn't it sound a little suspicious when a religion says, "If you don't believe what we believe, you will suffer terrible anguish for all eternity".

Sounds like fear mongering to me.

It is a lie and don't believe it. Religion is man made and not from God.

I know what you mean , on the one hand stories from the bible make no sense especially from a perspective of people living nowadays . But at the same time the fear that they use on you from a young age is hard to get rid of. I still have an irrational fear of death because im afraid of being punished by my loving god. When i try to go to church i just run out of patience because its all too suspicious and all to convenient.

I find that to be quite suspicious. As a matter of fact, my theory is that a lot of religions were created so that a certain type of person can stay in power over the majority of people that might have outnumbered them in certain situations, and this same practice is still being performed today with Christianity and etc.

Yep, that's religion in a nutshell. Without fear, there would be no followers. how often do we see people parading the pascal's wager around. What if there is a god, do you want to risk going to hell?
Hmmm...let me see, actually Yes. I refuse to be scared into believing

If someone doesn't believe in any religion, why would he believe what it says? This should not be a problem for him.And yet you can put the phrase in the negative sense :"If you believe what we believe, you'll go to heaven and have eternal grace."Don't you see it's the same here?

I choose to think that love drives my beliefs, not fear. To paraphrase John 3:16 - God loved us so much that He allowed His only Son to die on a cross to save us from our sins.

It is. My experience has been that "religion" has very little to do with God. My advise is to stick to faith. Like love it comes from the heart and can't be taught by ANY book, "good" or otherwise. Remember that books are written by men and that no one is infallable.

Doesn't atheism say the same thing though? "If you don't believe what we believe, you are an ignorant fool and will never go to a state of eternal bliss, you will just be surrounded by EMPTINESS and DARKNESS" (both of which are words I use to characterize hell)

ummm YES!!
i think that fear is the biggest driver in religion and politics, the more afraid the masses are the more willingly they will give up their basic rights!

...that's what "religion" says sometimes.... but consider this, what "religion" is God....? take your time... think... when you can figure that out...well... the answer is simple... but remember God does give up instructions... read them, in The Book... try Exodus, Chapter 20... (second Book in The Book)....
