Do you think "turn your other cheek" mentality makes sense? Of course we should be forgiving but don't you think that there can be some kind of punishment for such big sins? Why there is no capital punishment in the Bible?

Turn your other cheek? How? By offering another loved one?

I think many misunderstand this concept. As a Christan I am told to turn the other cheek when I am abused for proclaiming Jesus just as we saw with those who did so in Acts. If I am simply walking down the street and I am mugged I can defend myself and if my family is being attacked I have an obligation to defend them unless again we were proclaiming Jesus.

Capital punishment is very much a part of the Bible. Often it was demanded for certain crimes. Remember...Jesus?

The governments also have a responsibility to punish wrongdoers because it is the swift punishment of them that would stop crime but it should be just and it should apply to all wrong doing...not just by those that are not liked.

Example...I work in a ministry for abused men. Often these men have been arrested for being a VICTIM of abuse...while their abuser were treated like the victim and awarded with the real victims homes and kids. This is not justice and it is something we should all be trying to work to prevent in order to value ALL our people.

One last thing...forgiveness does not mean we let the person who did wrong off the hook.

There is capital punishment in the Bible: Heaven or hell. Since God himself is not the ruler of the country, the laws must be secular and thus the secular courts may either condemn or justify a person, but they are still to be before God's courtroom. But as to the question, no I probably would not have enough forgiveness in my heart to turn the other check. I would instinctively want to get revenge but I cannot say for sure........ But my heart would want revenge.

Well, everyone tells me I am to honest for my own good, so I would have to say no I couldn't turn the other cheek. I would most likely be the person to make an issue out of it if no one else didn't.

Forgiving is a different matter in my opinion, all should be forgiven , but not all should be forgotten.

Any type of violence is wrong, but killing is unacceptable. I don't see any logical reason for killing. But I do believe in an eye for an eye, if you commit a crime , being prepared to serve the consequences should come along with the decision to commit it .

That question will remain with humanity forever.

God is greater than than what any man or woman on this earth can state. Who are we to say what he likes or dislikes? I believe we are his children and his creation, therefore any damage to his creation probably won't go down well with him. HOWEVER.....
God (Or whatever name you give him/her) does not interfere much with the world he created. He has given us free will over our lives and the lives of others. We cannot know if he will judge us. The bible was written by man, not him, so I don't care for passages. So if you kill a potential killer, who is to say (besides your government of course) that you are doing wrong? The answer is only you and your faith in god.

And there was capital punishment in the old testiment.

Two wrongs don't make a right. There was capital punishment of a worse kind in the Bible, they stone people to death. But the love of God in Jesus wiped such things away. "Vengance is mine, says the Lord"

Yes, I would do my best to forgive that person in my heart. My forgiveness would not change the law of the land however, and if they were found guilty and sentenced to the death penalty, I could not stop that.
The Bible does have capital punishment.

Actually there is a great deal of capital punishment in the Bible. It goes like this: "These people over there are living on our land before we got here! God says for us to smite them!"

Then there's the long list of death penalty infractions...like for a woman being raped to not scream. Or for a child to embarass his parents. Or for women to wear clothing made from two different types of cloth.

...Oh My ! who's been teaching you....? first... crimes/sins are punishable in our society... if someone were to commits a crime against you or a loved one... we have a system to punish that individual... God has a system too... and God only has (1) punishment for sin... and it's beyond Capital punishment... it's eternal death and separation from God in hell... No fines, no probation, no parole, no re-habs to plea bargaining... that's why it's so important to know The Defense Attorney... He's related to The Judge... He's His Son.... but... you've got to get to know Him on this side of eternity (the Court Room)... if you are standing infront of Him and don't have The Lawyer...Oh My.... It's in The Book...

Just because you turn the other cheek doesn't mean the person shouldn't be brought to justice. I think prison is enough taking someones life doesn't justify the cause.

If someone kilkled one of the people i love, I would hunt them down and either beat them senseless or end their life also. In the bible, it says, "An eye for an eye." I despise violence, but when it comes to my loved ones, especially my beautiful daughter, I know I would snap if someone ended her life.
