There are so many factors that need to be considered, such as why the person feels anxious and frightened. If this is ongoing, severe, and prevents the person from joining in activities they would like to enjoy, I suggest professional help would do a world of good. Many people are mildly uncomfortable with more than a couple of people, especially strangers, but are able to press through the discomfort and enjoy social activities. It sounds like this person has a more severe aversion. That usually requires a specially trained guiding hand to help.

You can also try therapy; that's what I'm in. If you have a social anxiety disorder, they should provide you with meds.; I also suffer with a social anxiety disorder w/depression and I was placed on Zolofts. Maybe, you should consider these options with your parents and your doctor.

I have read some litterature about panic attacks. But they allways seem to have a more scientific approach and that is nothing I need in my struggle to survive those horrible panic attacks. This is a "hand on" and very practical book. I felt it was written to me. I am sure that you are going to feel the same.

Joe Barry writes exactly how I think. The examples are perfectly described. And the method is genius. I recommend this book and thanks Joe Barry for writing it. It changes your life

Go to NAMI.org and research this illness. NAMI stands for National Association for Mental Illness. It has lots of good info on the web site and there are associations in all the states and in most communities. They are a fine organization and provide lots of help to people with brain disorders and to the people who love them.

DO NOT TURN TO MEDS! I did and it ruined my life. My hair fell out and I gained a hundred pounds.
Electric shocks through my body.
