Why are humans smarter than the other animals? why do we build large buildings and beautiful artwork? Why do we write poetry and books? How are we able to invent great things like airplanes and bridges, and temples? If we are just animals trying to pass genes and eat and survive, What stops us from just killing off our dads and just procreating with mom? Why do we bury are dead and celebrate their life with alcohol and parties? Is not life more special than you are giving credit?

Well...Of course we are special but ask the dog, i'm sure they think they are special too. And i am sure they will ask the same question you are asking. "why are they faster than us, why are they bigger and smarter than ants, why do they have beautiful puppies not milions of eggs like chicken. I am sure the dolphin is asking the same question too."Why are we so smart, why do we have the ability to communicate by whistling (or whatever it is that they do). I am sure all these animals have accomplishments that they only recognize and we don't know about or don't recognize as smart. You have to realize that thinking the way you are thinking is very arrogant. Assuming that we are better than other animals because we think we are smarter. Oh and on another note, does that mean that the people who have killed their dads and procreated with their moms are not special or have no purpose on earth? Or that because we have found ways to have fun (which is not unique to the human race) that that makes us special and from god? Your reasoning has so many holes in it but the biggest one i can point out is that we can only see things from our own perspective, and as arrogant as some of us are, we assume that the dog or cat or dolphin or whatever animal out there shares our perspective as well. You are not the king of the jungle. The lion can gobble you up with your intelligence and all in one swallow and who knows he may claim to be made by god for that purpose.

Look at how successful we are in evolutionary terms - 6 billion people and counting! It's clearly an enormous advantage to be an intelligent species and all the things you mention are a by-product of that. Let's just rejoice in what evolution has given us.

The natural world is more special than you give it credit for.

Answers to your questions, in order:
Biology.
Because chicks dig large buildings and beautiful artwork.
Because chicks dig poetry and books.
Because we've developed to the point where we can think in the abstract.
Because the decreased fitness associated with consanguinous unions would breed out the desire to mate with one's mother (and maybe you're confusing Freud and Darwin here; understandable, since they both look like Santa/God).
Because funerals and funerary activity are for the benefit of those still living.
Life is special enough without inventing Vengeful Sky Dictators.

So you are saying that us being creatures with imaginations is proof of God?
Atheists do not deny the fact that humans are creative and imaginative creatures. What does that have anything to do with religion? It just means that we are the most advanced species on the earth. Its just how we evolved. Even animals are smart enough to learn that when they hurt themselves, they shouldn't do that again. And they learn from their mistakes because their brain is growing as they mature.
Its nature that we are the way we are. Something has to be at the top of the food chain.

All of your questions can be answered by studying up on evolution. Try the following:

"On the Origin of Species" by Charles Darwin

"What Evolution is" by Ernst Mayr

"The Selfish Gene" by Richard Dawkins

All the things that you mentioned are what give man pleasure, which is looked down upon by hardcore Christians, right? Christians believe that they shouldn't form bonds with what they can't take with them to heaven, thus from a Christian perspective surely it is pointless to develop amazing architectural masterpieces, to paint an awe-inspiring canvas - isn't this distracting us from God? I thought god ordered his followers to be humble.

If there is no God, then nothing matters. Morality is artificial. Every animal for himself. More (for me) is better. If you have it and I want it, then why shouldn't I take it? If morality were up to each to decide, then we, as a race would end up with even more conflicts than we have now.
So, why the moral trepidation? Conditioning? Every culture has a common standard of what is right (accepted) and wrong. This is an endowment, this conscience, we posess.

the atheists will just say that through the process of natural selection via random mutation, the recombination of our genes through gene flow provided, through the eons of time, perfection upon perfection until we got to where we are today and the human brain is a magnificant creation of these natural wonders/processes.

DON'T BUY IT. the miraculous truth of reality is clearly seen with the amazing human eye and to deny the power of existence is to deny the reality that exists!

God is real, whether you choose to believe or not!
