Nowdays, it's all a matter of personal taste - I prefer white zin with almost anything, but the rule of thumb is white meat = white wine; red meat = red wine.
As for the person who said wine is against the Lord's law, read your Bible again - even Jesus turned the water into wine.......

I used to work for a winery tasting room and I handled this question many times.
You drink the wine you like no matter what meat you choose to eat. For me, red wine is king. Although red wine goes with red meat, I will also drink red wine with chicken, fish, etc. but I favor it with beef and pork. Red wine doesn't go well with spicy Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, and other Asian cuisines of this sort because the hot peppers overwhelm the taste of the wine.
However, an off-dry gewurztraminer or riesling will also go well with any meat as long as you like the taste of the wine, which I certainly do. These are the wines to drink with the spicy foods mentioned above.
Chardonnay does go well with fish, but again, if you like a wine, drink it with the meat of your choice.

Blush (Pink) wines go with just about every dish. White wines go with fish, chicken and some veal dishes. Also many cuts of pork are nice with these lighter wines. Red wines traditionally pair with heartier fare-beef and most wild game. Most importantly-drink what you enjoy and don't hold your tastes to any preconceived pairings-who knows-the next trend may be one of your making.
