I used to have clear skin before I changed to a different type of pill around 18 months ago. I got a lot of painful spots - my skin looked awful. I stopped taking them and was prescribed antibiotics, which cleared it up a lot.

The problem is I seem to get spots regularly ever since (plus they seem to take much longer to heal), not just on my face, but on my back and chest as well. I never used to get them there at all.

Help!

Come off the pill and find something else - they tell you its safe, but its not. I tried 4 different types and had quite severe side effects from them all.

Is it really worth it?

The pill is a hormone product, which works by interfering with your own hormone levels. This can produce acne, as it has with you. In some patients with acne the shift may produce improvement.

Your options are to try a further pill change. 2 pills are said to help acne. Dianette, which has a licence to treat acne, but has double the VTE (clot) risk of other pills, and Yasmin, this has no acne licence but is said to help.

To stop the pill and chose an alternate form of contraception.

To continue on your current pill and treat the acne separately. You could use either over the counter cleansers or topical antibiotics from your GP. Oral antibiotics would not be suitable as trey would decrease the efficacy of the pill.

You shoul try a different pill, not all of them are the same and some have higher doses of hormones in them.
