how do you say you love/like them without telling them straight up?

Simple flirting works best to get a gague of their feelings towards you and give them a hint you're interested. Try a subtle thouch on the hand or arm when telling a story or when they tell a joke. For example, "Thats so funny!" touch their hand or arm for a couple seconds.
If you're male, opening the door and ushering the lady through with your hand at the small of their back works well. Just make sure it isnt too low, or you will offend :).

Tell them what you love/like about them and how they make you feel. It's easy for anyone to say 'I love you' whether they mean it or not, but explaining why they're special in a well-thought-out manner [even without saying how you feel specifically] will usually make someone understand you care.

You flirt with them, but not too excessively. Then, see how they react. If they happen to go along with the flirtatiousness, then it means they probably feel something for you too (unless they're a flirtatious person to begin with). If they don't go along with it, then they might possibly not be feeling the same way and you should probably keep it to yourself for the time being (unless they're shy, in which case there's really no way of deciphering how that person feels unless you get a friend to do it for you).

Do you ever say that you appreciate them as a person, that hey are amazing and you really enjoy being with them. When you are with them time flies, and you never seem to have enough time with them. You love their smile, their eyes, etc.Just being with them makes you happy and makes life fun. Are you getting all of this????
