I think that India should officially become a Hindu state for the following reasons:

1)
There are two hundred states in the world. From these 200 states dozens are Christian states and dozens are Muslim states. ALL the states that have majority Muslim populations in them are all officially Muslim states. ALL the states that have majority Christians in them are all Christian states. India is the ONLY state in the whole world that has a majority Hindu population and yet it is a crime if a Hindu demands India be categorised as a Hindu state. Hinduism isn't like Islam or Christianity which claim 75% of the world. India is the only Hindu state in the world. 1 country from a total of 200. What would be so wrong if the only one country that has a majority Hindu population categorises itself as a Hindu state? Please tell me. By India categorising itself as a Hindu state, it doesn't imply that all minority rights would disappear.

2)
By its nature Hinduism is a religion that accommodates all religions. It isn't like Islam or Christianity which can only be practiced at the expense of other religions. Hinduism is a religion that believes in unity and co-existence. Just compare what Hindu religious leaders say about other religions and then contrast that to what other religious leaders say about Hinduism. You will be able to deduce the difference. Hinduism believes that god is in every religion and every religion is in god. Hinduism is the best religion for a state to adopt because it allows for flexibility.

3)
India is the birth place of Hinduism.

4)
India is internationally recognised as a Hindu country and many pilgrims come to India in order to visit Hindu shrines.

5)
It contains the majority of the globe’s Hindu population.

6)
83% of Indians are Hindu.

7)
India has a Hindu tradition stretching back thousands upon thousands of years.

Dear Tracy!!!!

That is NOT what I mean!!! What I means was that should India be officially coined a Hindu state (at a governmental level) as opposed to a "secular" state (which it is now)

No, I do not.

For one thing, if India officially became a Hindu state, then funding to the NLFT from outside sources would increase, as more Christian groups would be talked into funding this group than already do. Increasing Christian terrorism would be a bad thing.

There might be another mass exodus of people like there was during the division of India from Pakistan and what is now Bangladesh. That did not go well at all the first time, it is probably not a good idea to let it happen again.

Also, many countries with Christian majorities are not officially Christian states. The U.S. has about 75% of its population practicing Christianity, yet it has no state religion.

NO. That makes us superior to anybody. When we got independence and Muslims got Pakistan ,we could have Hindustan. But our great leaders decided to have a secular state We see the world as one entity that why Dalai lama and his followers are protected in India and that is why we gave a official funeral for Mother Theresa.
India is the only country Where Prime minister is a Sikh
President is a Muslim, Home Minister is a christian and
last election the Hindu fundamentalist party failed to a secular party, where 83% populations are Hindus
This make us the Greatest country in the world and not by becoming a mediocre and became a Hindu country.

India is one among the 200. Hinduism as a religion has been practised for millions of years.

Nearly 600 years of Muslim rule and nearly 400 years of British rule cannot root Hinduism out of the country. Hindus as human being are highly tolerant and resilient in nature. They are pious, faithful and firm. Their Vedas, Upanishads and Purana could not be filtered out of the waters of Ganga.

Then why worry about the percentages and numbers.

Our youngsters have started establishing themselves in every nook and corner of the mother earth. They are spreading our culture. Building temples and performing Hindu rituals. Hindu
art forms and sangeet have enchanting effect on others.

Indian Muslims and Christians did not come from Middle East or Rome. They are all Hindu descendants following a different faith. Why to get perturbed over this! They are also Indians.

By being a Secular Country India has only proved the inner strength of Hinduism as a great Religion and the Power of Tolerance , Sathya and Anand. Let us feel proud as a Secular Nation.

Again H.L.....

Hinduism is not a religion but a culture. A culture that teaches acceptance, tolerance, respect, humanity, etc. Vedas don't talk about hinduism. The term Hindu was coined much later for people living around the Indus and the Sindhu rivers. Vedas talked about 'Sanatan Dhrma' - 'Duties for all'. Declaring a state as a Hindu state would be condemn of what the ancient vedas thaught.

Secondly, if only figures could declare things, then -
1> The whole world should be termed as christian zone;
2> Mandarin should be accepted as universal language as the highest percentage of the world population understand that dialect.

India is a secular state and I am proud of that. As a human being, and as what my culture thaught me, I believe in unity. Discrimination is a human trait and we gotta fight it back.

All the best...

:-)

India means Hindu, The word " Hindu" does not mean any religion, it means the original inhabitants of Bharath, from the perspective of religion, the word "Hindu" would mean the amalgamation of several relegions, thoughts and belief. Thus the word Hindu is identified with Indian and nothing else.
So India is a Hindu Country.

It seem a logical answer, but the day India becomes a Hindu state we will turn our country the likes of Pakistan and Bangladesh. Let my country be a land for all true Indians. Do what ever you want to do with yours.

Yes. Otherwise it is hypocrisy , which gives rise to riots. It is not the question of religion , but how much liberal you are . Most of our people and ministers are illiterate and narrow minded . This gives rise to all the problems we are facing today. There is so much of moral policing and vote bank politics , all because we are confused what we are.
If we are not sure what we want , it leads to great struggle and jeopardy . We have to identify ourselves and very clearly spell out our ideologies and beliefs.
COPYING OF A FOREIGN CONSTITUTION CANNOT FORM THE BASIS OF OUR EXISTENCE.
So you are very right to state that we should accept boldly what we are and all the right thinking people should stand up for the same to safeguard our existence.

dear brother hinduism is not a religion like islam and christianity. it is a way of life ,which consist more than 18000 different religions in india e.g. maratha, brahmin and etc etc.
britishers gave name hinduism for these thousands of religions in order to group them for their admistrative convenience.so it is impossible to make india as hindu state as there will be problems within hindu community itself. and if u mean hindu state by a state run by hindus then india is already hindu state as majority of administrative peoples running the nation are hindus.

Hey Get over it! Religion is a thing whose time has passed.

There is only One State. The State of Mankind and the sooner the people can change their culturalization, the sooner they will come out of cave mode, the sooner they will get along with brothers and sisters through knowledge not religion.

It's your State of Mind that counts for everything good!
