Suppose you had a job but instead of working, you wanted to goof off all the time. If your boss hired another person and that person did what they were hired to do and more, would it bother you? If you are honest, I think you would say yea because that person would be showing the boss that you were lazy even without saying anything just by his or her own performance.

Jesus revealed the sin in the lives of those that were suppose to be the religious leaders. They did not like what they were seeing when Jesus showed them what they were really like. They were also afraid for their....jobs. (John 11:48)

Judas however I think wanted Jesus to make His move. He thought that Jesus came to set up His kingdom at that time and Judas wanted to force Jesus to overthrow the Romans. He did not understand that all of these events were foretold in the Old Testament. None of the Apostles did until AFTER the Resurrection.

Jesus challenged the authority of the roman empire by claiming he was the son of god, which was essentially the same claim the roman emperor made to secure his own power. Similarly his claim challenged the high priests of the time because he extended god's kingdom to include all people and not just the jews. Some of his own followers turned against him either to save their own lives or because the religious leaders had encited them against him. Overall he challenged every existing power structures and therefore was seen as a huge threat.

Both Roman Law and Hebrew Law prohibited anyone from assuming the title of "Son of God". The first was an affront to Caesar, because he was God of Rome and the only allowable King; second being called God was Jewish heresy punishable by death. Both the Priests and Pilate himself gave Jesus the opportunity to "recant" to state publicly that he "was only a prophet" and not God or the Son of God. Of course he could not do this without lying, so he remained silent. At last he replied.. "you have said so". People are fickle.. His followers wavered because of fear, but in the end they remained true to him.. except Judas who betrayed him for money. His reasons have been debated for centuries.. some think Judas was so sure Jesus was God, and that he could not be killed, that he was trying to force a confrontation in which the "messiah" would overthrow the Romans and free the Jews from oppression. He missed the whole point of Jesus' teaching, that he would become a martyr. In despair, Judas hanged himself.

For the High Priests and Romans, he challenged thier beliefs, which is also the reason behind much of the hatred spewed at Christianity here.

As for the followers you would have to give more specific examples.

One might be Judas, but Jesus didn't make him turn, love of money did. The thirty pieces of silver and all.

Another would be Peter, when he denied Christ three times just before He died for us, and again that wasn't Jesus, it was fear.

Both repented, Judas threw the money back at the ones that gave it, before killing himself to escape the guilt. Peter repented just after the third time, and went on to live for Christ.

I hope this helps.

God Bless.

To this day, religion does not accept change. Don't upset their "Apple Cart". Jesus represented a change.
