'good' or 'bad' are personal judgments, and these are up to you.
Marijuana is illegal in this country mostly because in the 30's of last century, the hemp industry was in competition with the lumber industry. One of the lumber Bigwigs had a cousin in the FBI, and thus propaganda was initiated to make hemp production - including marijuana illegal.
As a drug, it has no worse or less side effects than your average other drug, such as alcohol or over-the-counter 'medicines'.
It does carry a bite of tar, but if you consume moderately and don't smoke other substances, it shouldn't do too much harm.
The usual "it's a lead-in drug" argument falls short of my experience of drugs (over 30 yrs ago) which consisted of using alcohol first, painkillers, including heroin and morphine second, and marijuana last.
I never did acquire a 'taste' for marijuana and have stopped using other drugs 30 yrs ago.
"Horrible" is an opinion. The illegality was caused by greed (from the lumber industry) and the fact that once a law is in effect, it's just about impossible to get rid of it again.

I think it is bad. I have several friends that used to be addicted to it. Some people will say you can't get addicted but I can quote names of several that claim they were. I also work with kids and know others that work with youth. It is a major problem. Also, putting smoke in your lungs is not healthy (anyone 4 years or older knows this). There are other chemicals in marijuana that effect your health. There is also a good chance that you could develop mental disorders as well. Many people that use it will claim that what I am saying is not true - but I work with kids that are ACTUALLY suffering from its use. Give it up and find out what the real reason why you can't sleep well without it. Did I mention it is expensive and illegal?

It's like drinking, smoking, food, gambling, sex etc... some people can control how much and others become addicted. Anything addictive can take over a persons life. You say you smoke before bed because it helps you sleep. Some people have a glass of wine at the end of the day to help relax. It's when the one smoke or one glass isn't enough anymore. You need more. More to help you sleep, more to help you relax, more to take away the pain of life etc.. Some people start on marijuana and it's not enough so they look for more potent drugs.. most often people addicted to heavier drugs started on marijuana and moved on to heavier drugs. Sometimes marijuana is laced with heavier drugs and other nasty chemicals, so you don't know what you are actually smoking. If I was a drug dealer I would be lacing marijuana to get you addicted to heavier drugs, and lacing it with chemicals to make it cheaper for me. So it really depends on how you look at it. Addictions in all forms can be detrimental on a persons life and the people around them.

It's not from the pot, that's just another one of one's own opinion? I smoked pot for about 39 yrs., since I was 11yrs. old!. I still have the same amount of brains now as I did way back then. This feeling of anger can be controled by some kind of counciling, it's not from the pot smoking, that's only a misled opinion!!!, of other's. Pot is actually a plant, and not a man made substance made by man, which is the old definition of a drug! It's a herb... not a man made drug, it grows out of the ground it" not made!!! Years ago before the terroism in our country they had a commercial on t.v. that showed eggs being fried in a skillet, saying this was your brains on drugs, now they have a commercial saying that when someone buys drugs it is supporting terroism!! What bullcrap are commercials going to do next about drugs??? who knows and who should really care, it"s all bullcrap anyway!!!! Keep on token the stuff will never hurt you, just don't get in trouble over it, that can hurt or suck!!!

some think its a bad drug because their in denial. our gov is so obsessed with a multibillion dollar war on drugs that has been obscenely ineffective that they've lost track of who's really getting hurt.THE I.R.S. if they could tax, it they would sell it hence the A.T.F,. don't they pay attention. even our presidents are druggies and that's o.k. with the majority of us. look at foreign nations. they have less drug restrictions and lower crime and suicide rates. there IS a connection. I'm not saying become an addict because addiction of any kind is bad(i.e. sex, gambling, red meat)but moderation is the key and as a sleep aid or for eating disorders than go for it (just ask cancer patients or anybody else seriously ill). there are carcinogens in shampoo and hot dogs and people make a big deal about recreational drugs. p.s. tylenol eats your liver, asprin causes rheys syndrom, vaccinations are linked to autism, people abuse cold medicine, and birth control can kill you.... PRIORITIZE PEOPLE ...............

No marijuana alone doesn't cause hallucinations unless it's been laced with something else like PCP.
However it kills brain cells like Jack the Ripper with a uzi in a room full of hookers. I know a woman who is 28 she's smoked weed everyday since she was 16 she is now sterile and cannot have children several years ago she got knocked up while high and had a miscarriage so it's not like she was always sterile.
There's a reason they call it dope.

it actually does lead to short-term memory problems after long term use (that's one reason it's bad)
It also keeps people from living up to their full potential.
a lot of people think it's horrible because it's illegal
there are other legal ways you could fall asleep and "sleep good"
people also claim that we start with marijuana - it no longer does enough- and then we move to harder drugs, hence the term, "gateway drug." But personally, i think 'milk' is a gateway drug/substance, 98% of ppl that use hard drugs drank milk between the ages of infancy - 5 yrs old.

The problem with weed is that it has long term effects. I used to be a stoner myself. The problem is that over time you get used to that lazy chilled kind of feeling, you start to slowly lose your motivation to do things. Marijuana can be good for you IF you use it in moderation. Don't make it an every day thing, do it for fun occaisionally and you should be fine.

It is better than cigarettes, in the sense of health.
Marijuana has a lot more tar than cigarettes, but generally less chemicals. It is really bad for your lungs.
The main reason it is illegal is it impairs you.
To jenna: Maybe thats why I never did drugs... I hated milk as a kid :D still do.

I don't thibk it that bad to where it has to be illegal. If anyone choses to do it it's their life and I chose to because most of life pleasures are guilty pleasures anyway. And if weed does kill us, we're gonna day someday. And it's very possible that it's gonna become legal soon.
