. ..eventually I was a little mean on purpose so he wouldn't like me, and now I can feel that he thinks I'm really like that and it affects my perception of myself and how I actually feel that he is thinking this is how I am in a relationship...it isn't, but his pestering was abusive from my perspective; any ideas on how to prevent his ego trip on thinking he is mr perfect and I am ***** or something?

Being mean isn't enough, as some guys attribute that to pms, or are turned on by it, or think they must work harder on the relation etc.

Why is it so hard to just tell him the truth, anyway?
Why are girls like this? They always beat around the bush!

If you want something, just be direct & say so!
If you don't, then shut your mouth!

If more women would be like this, there wouldn't be this kind of problem.

Umm, if the guy doesn't go away when you tell him to it's ok to get a little mean. who cares if he thinks that's what you're really like? You don't want to be w/ him remember? This won't be the last time you feel this way but it shouldn't matter. Outsiders shouldn't judge (but they do) because unless you're in the relationship you have know idea what's really going on. stand up for yourself and don't let anyone push you around. Be true to yourself.

He isn't being realistic about the situation. And basically is selfish. He wasn't out for your best interest. Adleast you were smart enough. To call it quits. He wasn't allowing you freedom. That would make anyone partially exhibit Dr. Jekyl/Mrs. Hyde persona. Or vice a versa.

A boyfriend isn't like a husband. You have no obligation to him, and you don't need his permission to break up. Don't say, "I want to break up with you," say, "I'm dumping you," and leave it at that.
