I am to little to comment on Adwaita but I can't stop adding my two cents:
Shankaracharya did not have to repeat Buddha because he had a much older Darshan which was partly repeated by Buddha. In fact Buddha branched out from the same pool of philosophical schools while Shankaracharya continued from the original pool.
While Buddha spoke about renunciation, Shankaracharya showed the opposite - Action.
Being one with God is a difficult goal in Buddhism while in Shankaracharya' idea, we are never separated (No Dwait) from the God..."Shivoham, Shivoham"
Buddha's world is full of miseries and needs to be discarded, while Shankaracharya's world is full of God, hence needs to be accepted and nourished.
Please correct me if I am wrong and pardon me if I am ignorant.

Shankaryacharya's concept of maya is very close to Nagarjuna's concept of sunnyata - emptiness. Since Nagarjuna came first, it is logical to assume he did influence Shankara Charya.
On the other hand it is also true that Shankaracharya stood in an old tradition of interpreting the Upanishads. He united various such interpretations into one whole.
Buddhism had been in India for centuries when Nagarjuna lived - 'Hinduism' and Buddhism had been influencing each other for centuries as well. It's probably forced to separate the different streams of thought too much. The way Buddha-statues were worshipped was probably very much like the way Hindu stutues of gods were worshipped. This can be seen in how that's still done in Theravada countries.
That these religions are very separate now, doesn't mean they were separate then - in the eyes of believers and ordinary people.

Metallica Junkie, I do love Slayer and Metallica, yet Avenged Sevenfold has a sparkling sound each album and is awesome. they seem a collection of musicians that are awesome and performance a distinct type each of the time (in the strong way). Btw, bands will continuously have a particular SOUND that makes them recognizable, yet some bands actually have a distinct type each of the time, like Led Zeppelin and Avenged Sevenfold. some punk, pop punk, grunge, and few rock bands, like Blink-182 and Nirvana, have a similar type each of the time. even if, I nonetheless love those bands which have a similar type.
