I agree. As a black person, I found that a lot of black people think that too many of us are ignorant of our culture and heritage. What surprised me was to find out that it's not just a 'black thing'. A lot of people in the US are ignorant of their own background, ethnic heritage and culture. Some of it is the fault of the educational system which tends to mislead the masses with historical prejudice, but a lot of it has to do with home training and the lack of information being passed down through the generations.

One of the disadvantage of scientific revolution is corrupting the mind of young through media and computer. I don't blame the scientific revolution. It might have got its own advantages. But majority of inventions are being misused by the young and old alike due to freedom of access to IT gadgets. Naturally out of curiosity, even children start browsing the net, surfing through prohibited sites, learn all the vices. TV is one of the visual media which spoils the mind of majority of children. The horrors and vulgarity when they are exposed to the programmes, contaminate their mind to a great extent. The advent of mobile phones, which when fallen in the hands of gullible youth leads to immorality. I do not generalise and blame all. The increase in Crimes is a single example which are the direct result of Technological advancement. Sai Baba says it is 'Tricknology' and not technology. Sorry for the harsh views. Hence these are all the fundamental reasons for forgetting ones own culture. nagarajan.

which culture are you talking about ??

India being a multi-culture country, each zone follows it's own set of rules, which most probably is not in sync with the other. And with the cable TV and the motley of channels adding to the confusion, we don't even need the western influence to mess life for us.

We are trying to forget our culture, but can we? No. Can a fish forget to swim and start flying? It is just experimentation. We will surely return to our culture, or we perish.

What culture? Mind if I ask? Are you a hermit? Can't you see people around you with different customs, habits, even different ways of wearing clothes? Different countries have different ways of life even those in the same country? Different dialects and languages. What can you comment about these differences?

I disagree. All around me I see people embracing their cultures. I don't know about in the US, but here in Canada, people are very proud of their cultures and make sure to teach their children where they originated from.

I was actually talking to someone about this last night. People here don't say I'm Canadian when they are asked "what" they are. If their family is Portuguese, they say Portuguese. French, they say French, Croatian they say Croatian. You rarely hear people say I'm Canadian while talking to another Canadian.
