We read a lot about individuals taking (prescribed) psyciatric drugs that make unstable minds more 'stable'. Therefore are their 'opposite' drugs that can make stable minds 'unbalanced'? Thanks, if you can help.

It's obvious from alcohol to crack - all street drugs are designed to rapidly unbalance your mind. It's what they do, and yes they are all liable to create permanent changes from addiction to real physical damage.

Psychiatric drugs - don't really balance minds, they work on various parts of the brain suppressing some biochemical activity or boosting others, sometimes at the same time. What can balance a mind is care, part of that care should be an effective diagnosis and then treatment with some drugs can be used to help "re-balance" the mind. However unlike street drugs the drug companies go to enormous lengths to test for side effects and if a commercial drug acted to give you an instant high it would not be used - the potential for addiction and misuse would be very negative. With most medicines the benefit comes slowly - over days and weeks, sometimes you have to suffer the side effects for some time before you feel better.

I care for two people with serious mental illness and have had some experience with depression myself. From personal experience I would say that medical drugs are generally good but you have to watch for side-effects (everyone reacts differently to them). The effect of street drugs on people with mental illness is terrible, I don't know of anyone who has cured their anxiety, depression or psychosis with cannabis or alcohol

well Alan, if you take an medication for an unstable mind, then you surely would not want to take it if you had a stable mind. It would proably make it unstable, cause you are not going to understand what it is doing to you, and can cause you a lot of confussion, and well problems. You could find that you end up with a very unstable mind. Now why have you not ased this in class.? I am sure you would of gotten the same answer.

Alan do you think anybody could sell these drugs? And if there was no money to be made with them who would manufacture them in any purity. The body makes waste products and you don't need to make more. When the mind has to rethink and redo bad beliefs there is a waste product dumped into the brain fluid. Now whatty? It's not ear wax either. It was a good question though because now you know the secret to the brain hard drive storage.

There aren't 'opposite drugs' but any psych drug can push you in the wrong way and make you look and experience something similar to mental ill health.

It takes ages to find the right drug/s and the right dose to make someone 'stable'.. all those psych drugs (and other drugs) mess with your state of mind..

So if you were stable (and even if you weren't) and you took some- it would be pushing you in a way that could either make you more depressed (eg anti-psychs), anxiety, not sleep, sleep to much (tranqs), stress, high (anti-depressants) or out of touch with the world..

Yes LOTS of them. Try taking psyciatric drugs or anti-deppressants. For that matter look at the side effects of most tablets even over the counter ones. Deppression-loss of sex drive-diorhea-vomiting-high blood pressure-loss of vision. It makes you unbalanced to think they actually give you this s**t with a smile

Medications for depression, bipolar, schizophrenia can all have adverse effects on people if they do not have the condition.

Also, why would you want to do it? Crack, Meth, and a variety of other drugs will work faster though.

there are alot of monotoned, dull people that could surely benefit from them.

Give the drug companies a chance and they will invent them -then when the entire population has messed up the natural order of their minds we can all celebrate.
