My story. And let me say up front, I AM VERY LUCKY!!! No thanks to my "pcp". 2years ago I asked my pcp for his opinion about a dark "spot" on my nose. His advice. Nothing to worry about. He gave me some "vanishing" cream to rub on it to and sent me on my merry (and woefully misdiagnosed) way. Now, 2years later my 'dark little spot" had conti nued to grow. I again went to my pcp's office. This time for a physical. I happened to mention in passing that I wanted to have my "dark little spot" removed because people were now commenting on it. At this point, and only at this point did my pcp even look at it under a magnifying device. If I had not mentioned it, she wouldn't have either. AND REMEMBER, I WAS HERE FOR A COMPLETE PHYSICAL!!!!! She sent it off for a biopsy. It was malignant melanoma. But we caught it "in time". AGAIN, I AM ONE OF THE LUCKY ONES DESPITE MY PREVIOUS PCP'S LACK OF ACTION! THE MORAL : INSIST THAT YOUR DOCTOR TREATS YOU THE SAME WAY HE WOULD TREAT A LOVED 1.U DSERVE IT

What I do not understand is that you are told that if you have symptoms that are not normal to see your doctor. What happened in your case happens far too much. Thank goodness for your perseverance. My dad was not that lucky.

Hey, one thing i am sure, loved ones will never be sent for tests. Because doctors have a traditional tendency (idiosyncratic) to cure the loved ones themselves after diagnosing with their proved (within family only) acumen and let that be on haunch too. What do you think they can boast of to their loved ones if at all it is after all a test that found out the disease and the chemist/pharmacist has given the related medicine for the tested disease. Got my point I suppose. So my advice to you is, that is after a lot of experience I gained with many doctors in my family, relations and friends is that, you go to an unloved doctor to be treated appropriately on an objective basis. I wish heartily that your spots disappear sooner.

at some point and time doctors by not knowing exactly what is wrong would suggest you get a second opinion, and document every advice for you protection, bring someone with you if you are looking for support, doctors are over worked so sometimes it get non personal, find one that does not have as many patients and more help...sorry you had to go trough that....
