well for starters you should inform the inspectors, social services and the manager of the home.
Are you the manager? Or a carer?
I work as a registered nurse at a nursing home and have done for 16 years.
In what way are they being neglectful???? Are patients being left without buzzers, are they being left wet or not being fed?
You need to be more specific.
If there is abuse going on then you must contact the manager and the police immediately. can you prove there is neglect?

If there is a trained nurse that you feel is being neglectful and you can prove it then contact the NMC (nurse midwifery council...formerly was the UKCC) They will take your complaints seriously and will investigate.
You must put your concerns in writing if complaining to the inspectors and manager. Keep copies of all letters.
You should also be keeping a detailed diary of the neglect you feel is going on which needs to include dates, times, people involved and the actual neglect.
Don't ignore neglect. Good nursing homes rely on good workers. there is no place for neglect.

If you belong to a union they will help you.
if you do not belong to a union then consider joining the RCN (royal college of nusring) you can now join as a carer.

dude- if they don't have drinking water that's neglect. What do you feel they're being neglectful about, what happened to make you feel this way? Why don't you address it to the staff if it's something little and work TOGETHER to fix it, you'll feel more empowered and a part of the team. Ppl have a tendency to go downhill at nursing homes and maybe it's something new that you shouldn't be afraid to address, that's paranoia. It's against the law to fire the "whistle blower" and the "suspected abuser" is automatically suspended until an investigaton is done. If nothing happened, the person suspended gets all his back pay. If your in there, all these ppl look beat up and they have numerous skin tears. Why do you think they're there? They all have probally about 30 diagnosises. But the investigators don't read the chart of the residents' chronic hallucinations and behaviors.

Bless you, for caring enough to want to help; firstly, dont say anything to anyone else, or you'll be sacked. Quietly collect some evidence of this neglect, names, dates, even photos if you can manage. Even get names etc of the relatives who come to visit, especially if they have noticed the neglect. You then have to contact the health department responsible for nursing homes. Sorry I cant tell you exactly, as I'm in Australia. Please be careful, because if you get sacked, there is nobody then to keep an eye out for these defenceless elderly people. I've been in the same situation, and believe me, the old people will benefit from your caring.

Unfortunately, nursing home neglect is not that uncommon. Contact the Attorney General of your State.

Information should be posted in your break room by law. If not, you need to call the states department of inspections and appeals. That is what we have to do in Iowa. It is the same thing in all other 49 states as well, however, it may not be called the DIA. It may be called department of human services, or state department of health.

Well if you do nothing then you are as guilty as they are. I'm afraid that as uncomfortable, inconvenient or difficult as it may be, you really don't have any option other than to report this.

You have to contact the authorities and if they won't take action then the local newspaper will!
